Insurance FAQ

What's a Covered Benefit?

Treatment that is recommended by your dentist, is listed on the fee schedule, and accepted under the terms of your insurance group's plan.

What's optional treatment?

Treatment that is either not listed on your fee schedule or more than the minimum needs to be done to recover and restore the tooth back to its original functionalities.

What's the difference between Indemnity, P.P.O., H.M.O., & Discount Insurance Plans?

Indemnity or Traditional Insurance reimburses members or dentists at the dentist's UCR (Usual, Customary & Reasonable fee). This allows the subscriber to choose any dentist or dental office without being limited to any insurance panel.

(Preferred Provider Organization) is the most common form of insurance plans. They provide members with a list of participating dentists or dental offices to choose from. The dentists on this list have agreed to a lower fee schedule, which provides you with greater cost savings. They also assist their patients with insurance billing. Most companies pay up to 50% on major treatment (crowns, bridges, partials), up to 80% for basic care (fillings), and up to 100% for preventative care (exams, c-rays, basic cleanings). Annual maximums generally range from $1,000 to $2,000 for different plans and insurance companies.

Health Maintenance Organization assigns the patients to a group of dentists and are designed to provide members with basic care at the lowest rate. Participating providers receive a monthly capitation check for the patients assigned to their offices. This amount is only a few dollars and is intended to offset administrative costs. HMOs general don't pay for dental services rendered. Fees are usually greatly reduced, but the patient is solely responsible for paying the doctor. Patients benefit from the reduced fees.

Care Credit

Care Credit, from Synchrony Financial, is one of the largest and most popular health, wellness and beauty credit cards in the nation, serving millions of families each year. This card helps people receive the necessary healthcare needed, with more than 175,000 health care providers. Patients have the ability to use their healthcare credit card as a payment option for certain expenses that may not be covered by their personal insurance, or used to finish costs that aren't fully covered.

For almost 30 years, Care Credit has been providing valuable financial options for treatment and procedures that aren't typically covered by insurance. It's also used by cardholders to pay deductibles and co-payments. This can apply for one individual patient or for a family member of the patient. Having these financial options allow patients to make decisions about their treatment options that best suit them.
